Today my dreams of winning Minute to Win It were crushed by my inability to stack blocks four high on a plate balanced on top of my head.  Though I let my class down, I promise I tried my best.  Also, for all of the times I have watched that show and thought how easy it looked, I take it back.  I was shaking and nervous and I was definitely NOT on national television.  :)

Congrats to our students of the month:

AND congrats to our members of the YMCA championship team:

I sent the Silverwood Ticket reading sheets home today.  10 hours of reading can earn your child a free admission ticket.

Today's Great Grandparent Giant (again, Dylan wrote that):
Today was awesome!  We had our spelling and reading test.  Then we went to lunch, then recess, and then after that we moved desks, got our scores and then went home.

We had an outstanding day today.  The kids really worked hard and focused on their jobs.  We were able to dominate our reading rotations, knock our social studies notes out of the park, and rule our math time.  So awesome...

Today's Much Anticipated Wisdom Nugget:
First we had a very special guest today, she was so awesome.  It was Mrs. Hicks!  This morning was probably the quietest day of the year.  I could focus and I think the rest of us could, too.  I was hoping to change seating arrangements because on the schedule it had a space between SS and lunch even though I got a little over excited so I think he might wait just to keep us waiting.  After shares, Ryan shared her sugar shooter video on her awesome iPod!

I was gone this morning today due to a dentist appointment.  When I got to school and told the students why I was gone, they didn't believe me.  This means I either have bad teeth or they think I need a vacation:)

Study your spelling and have a great night!

When I was in the third grade, my teacher (Mrs. Holloway, if you are reading this, I want you to know that you are ridicously awesome) had me make some color-coded multiplication flashcards to learn my facts, and it was one of the best things that has ever happened to me (I live an exciting life).  To carry on the torch, we started making them as well.  They will forever better our lives.

Today's Wisdom Nugget:
"Today we wrote a paragraph about the Coastal Indians of Washington State.  We also worked on our flashcards and we had a little blizzard outside."

I sent home an informational letter to you all about a movie we are watching tomorrow in class.  Just in case it gets lost in the shuffle, here is what it reads:

In commemoration of Martin Luther King Day, the fourth grade students will be viewing the movie "Selma, Lord, Selma" Friday afternoon.  This movie has been televised on ABC's "Wonderful World of Disney."  The film is based on the memories of two young Selma girls who were 11 years old when King came to their Alabama town.  It recounts the troubled time in the civil rights movement that eventually led to the signing of the Voting Rights Act by President Lyndon B. Johnson.  This movie does have a scene where an individual is portrayed as being shot, although the actual shooting is not shown.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Today's Wisdom Nugget:
Happy Thursday, Parents!  No school on Monday the 16th.

We had the amazing Freeman Robotics Team demonstrate some of their creations today.  They showed us some really cool things which may or may not have been magic.

Today's Wacky Whales Win (Umm... Dylan came up with that...)  :
Today was awesome!  We had reading rotations.  Then we had a correcting party and it was fun.  Then we read Warriors.  Next we had robotics demonstrations.  Finally, we had recess, P.E., and went home.  See ya next time.

One of the joys of being a 4th grader at Freeman Elementary is the opportunity to be on the Freeman Float in the Lilac Parade and the Rockford Parade.  Students who are interested can write an essay about why they should be on the float, but spots are limited, so write the best essay that you can!  Students who are interested took home the informational sheet and the essay sheet today.

Check out last year's 4th graders and their awesome float:

Lookin' good, but I wonder, who is that handsome man in the Shakespeare costume?

This week's spelling and homework information is fresh and new for your viewing pleasure.

Last week, as I mentioned, we watched Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. deliver his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.  On Friday, I asked the kids to think about their own dreams, and what steps would need to be taken to make it come true.  Here are just a few of the many awesome dreams the students came up with:

Awesome, eh?

Today's Wisdom Nugget:
Today I had ultimate fun!  It was great.  I love school.

Parents, please know that I did not send your child's Friday folder home today.  I have to leave school early due to an appointment, so I didn't want to send the folders without this week's spelling test, etc.

In your child's backpack you should find a newsletter from me and also some information about the Spokane Junior Wrestling program.

Have a great weekend everybody!

Today was a day of amazing.  Not only did everyone turn their homework in, but we got to check out a LEGO model of Hogwarts and watch Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial thanks to YouTube.  Simply incredible and beyond inspiring.

Remember to study for your spelling test tonight!

Happy 2012 everybody!  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and that you got to spend time with those you love the most.

Today we were chatting about Martin Luther King, Jr. and others who have worked for social reform in our country.  When explaining social reform, I described it as working to make things better for everybody.  One of the very wise students responded with, "Oh yeah, like the ice cream truck."  Exactly.

Yesterday, Jaxon volunteered to write something for the blog, but he forgot.  I won't hold this against him because I forgot to write anything as well.  Oops.  Today, however, Jaxon forgot again.  So, I figured I would just jot down what he probably would have said:

Today's Wisdom Nugget:
Mr. V is the best teacher ever.  His guidance and opportunities have opened up a whole new world to me.
